Our eco-house has cob walls (a mix of clay, sand, small stones and straw, similar to medieval wattle and daub but without the special ingredient; manure!) The thatched roof was put up by specialist thatchers and is the perfect natural crown. The farm heating system is from a central wood burning boiler, housed in the boiler room.

Renewable energy

The wind turbine was erected in 2008 and it proceeded to spin fast and loud before flying off! After a bit of tweaking we now use it to power the lights in the hall, bathroom and the electric fences for the chickens. We have also installed solar tiles on the roof of the boiler room with the aim of powering more than half our electricity!
