,> Medicinal Mushrooms and Chicken Broth! <

As we come into spring, our family is foraging and growing our knowledge ever more each day. The newest foraged item is medicinal mushroom broth! Using our own natural mushrooms we’re adding Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) and Birch Polypore (Piptoporus betulinus) to our Chicken Broth.

Turkey tail and Birch Polypore mushrooms are medicinal mushrooms that have been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine and other ancient healing practices. Known for their immune-boosting properties and considered a natural remedy for many health conditions. Some of the potential benefits include:

Boosting the immune system: Both mushrooms contain polysaccharides and beta-glucans, which stimulate the immune system and help the body fight off infections.

Fighting cancer: Studies have shown that both mushrooms may help improve the survival rates of people with certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer and gastric cancer. Some studies suggest that the mushrooms may also have anti-tumor properties.

Improving gut health: Both mushrooms contain prebiotics that promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, which can improve digestion and overall gut health.

Reducing inflammation: The polysaccharides and antioxidants in both mushrooms have anti-inflammatory effects that may help reduce inflammation in the body and be useful in treating conditions such as arthritis and asthma. Antioxidants can help protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.

Antimicrobial Properties: Birch Polypore contains compounds that have antimicrobial properties, which may be useful in treating bacterial and fungal infections.

Supporting liver health: Turkey tail mushrooms may help protect the liver from damage caused by toxins and improve liver function.

Enhancing athletic performance: Turkey tail has been shown to improve endurance and reduce fatigue in athletes, potentially due to its immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties.

It’s worth noting that while both mushrooms have a long history of traditional use and some promising recent research, it should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment. If you have a medical condition or are considering taking a supplement, it’s important to consult with your healthcare provider first.

As always a healthy diet and gut, combined with an active lifestyle will almost always help improve your physical and mental state. To rely or single-mindedly focus on any one thing is to ignore all else at your peril!
