Some information about commercial chickens;

Did you know that the ‘normal’ commercial chickens, which make up over 90% of all chicken in the UK, only live for 4-5 weeks before being ready for sale. This is not always due to growth hormones or non-organic inputs, as organic and non-organic farms will unfortunately use this same breed of chicken. This accelerated growth is actually due to selective breeding resulting in an unnatural chicken, bred specifically for growth and profit, with little regard to ethics or sustainability…that’s capitalism in a nut-shell!

Our chickens however live a healthy natural free-range life and are traditional slow maturing mixed breeds which live for a minimum of 12 weeks…that’s three times as long!

The result of this is a high quality nutritionally dense meat, bursting with a real chicken flavour, firm texture, and very little water content. So when you cook our chicken you won’t be left with a shrunk flavourless dry meat but instead know you are feeding your family and supporting an ethical and sustainable farming system.

Understandably though with increased age, welfare and ethics comes increased labour, feed and overall cost.
